Ben Lin, a junior at Millburn High School, turned in a pair of medal-winning performances March 4 at the New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association Boys Swimming Meet of Champions at Gloucester Institute of Technology in Sewell.

Lin took third place in the 100-yard backstroke and placed eighth in the 200-yard individual medley.

"Ben Lin was outstanding, posting personal best times in both individual events," Miller head coach Mike Foglyano said. "You know in a big meet like this that Ben is going to have a good day and do something special."

Lin turned in personal bests in the March 3 preliminaries, posting the third place seed time of 51.54 in the 100 backstroke and claiming the eighth place seed time of 1:56.85 in the 200 individual medley.

In the finals of the 100-backstroke, Lin swam a 51.62. Will Manion of Haddonfield High School won the race in 49.04. Luke Papendick of Kinnelon High School finished second in 49.44.

The Miller junior posted a time of 1:58.93 in the 200 individual medley.

Victor Luo of Bridgewater-Raritan High School edged Haddonfield's Manion for the title, touching in 1:52.72. Manion touched in 1:52.78.

"It was a great honor that Ben made finals in both individual events and did so well representing Millburn against the top swimmers in the state," Foglyano said.

Lin won medals in these two events at the 2011 Meet of Champions. He placed seventh in the 100 backstroke and 13th in the 200 individual medley.
