The Pain Whisperer Treats Chronic Pain Without Surgery Like the One Jeremy Lin ... - MarketWatch (press release)

SOUTH FALLSBURG, N.Y., April 6, 2012 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ -- Jeremy Lin is scheduled to undergo surgery for his knee within the week and will be down for six weeks, ending his season. Tom Chi, also known as The Pain Whisperer and star of the upcoming reality TV series of the same name, offers a remarkable alternative therapy to this type of surgery.

In this teaser video for the show we see real patients with chronic pain before and after one treatment with his Supertouch(TM) therapy: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SYtYqS10z-M

Chi has treated perhaps a thousand similar injuries to the one afflicting Lin and explains that "while the tests show a torn meniscus, that is not the source of most pain. Often when the meniscus is repaired the pain persists. Most meniscus repairs will never heal due to how the blood is supplied."

Chi says the meniscus tear is no doubt quite real; however, excepting when a piece has torn off and is blocking the joint, the pain usually comes from adhesions in the tendons which insert into the back of the knee. By repairing those tissues with his Pain Whisperer hands he provides immediate lasting relief from pain regardless of any tears in the meniscus.

The Pain Whisperer super-sensitized his hands using esoteric kung fu exercises and his results are usually spectacular for injuries and pain even after years of therapy and failed surgeries. Chi can feel the injury as if it is a 3d exploded view and uses his hands to reprocess the injury so that it no longer exists and pain is gone immediately and doesn't come back. Dr. David Garrison, MD: "Tom Chi is the real deal."

"The treatment causes no harm and saves patients from needing surgery. Even with surgery patients can still have the pain. Most patients cancel their surgeries and remain pain-free after one treatment," says Chi. Dr. Umar Chaudry, MD: "Tom cured my extreme chronic pain like it was nothing!"

Chi has done 80,000 treatments and cured hundreds of patients who were slated to have hip or knee replacements using this amazing cure. He tells us the pain is not from the worn joints. "Even with little or no cartilage our patients have no more pain and a year later they are still pain-free. Arthritis is forever but pain can be eliminated on the spot!"

Tom Chi is a Master of kung fu and acupuncture and was on staff at Catskill Regional Hospital. His patients fly in from around the world and usually get fast-lasting relief from difficult pain after years of therapy and failed surgeries.

Knicks work better with Woodson - ESPN

Painting the picture with broad strokes, the 2011-12 New York Knicks' narrative has centered around a trio of players: Carmelo Anthony, Amare Stoudemire and Jeremy Lin. But nobody has been more vital to the team's ongoing storyline this season than the Knicks' coaches Mike D'Antoni and Mike Woodson.

This is because New York's season has unfolded in clearly defined sections. First, with Lin glued to the bench, D'Antoni directed Anthony and Stoudemire in a stagnant offensive attack. Out of desperation, D'Antoni placed Lin in the starting lineup at point guard and the team proceeded to win eight of nine games and, in fact, went 6-for-7 while Anthony was injured. Upon Anthony's return, the Knicks backslid against a much tougher schedule and lost six straight, which resulted in D'Antoni's dismissal.

Mike Woodson took over and won 6-of-7, but lost Lin and Stoudemire to injury. Since then, the Knicks have gone 3-2, but Anthony has excelled individually in a slower-paced attack. Indeed, the Knicks have played considerably better since Woodson replaced D'Antoni as head coach.

Lin

EXCLUSIVE: The Linsanity that Jeremy Lin touched off this winter has faded, a casualty of the New York Knicks point guard’s drop in productivity and the recent knee surgery that ended his regular season.

But the surreal period in which a former bench warmer led the Knicks on a seven-game winning streak while helping a lot of headline writers show off will live on, at least if Hollywood has anything to do with it.

Lin is the subject of a documentary that is being pitched to distributors in Hollywood by agency CAA; footage is currently being assembled.

According to a person familiar with the pitch who was not authorized to talk about it publicly, the movie (no firm title yet, so let your pun-riddled imagination run wild) looks both at Lin's unlikely run in the NBA as well at his humble background. Los Angeles-born and Palo-Alto raised, Lin shone at Harvard after being passed over by recruiters at college powerhouses, then bounced around pro basketball as an undrafted free agent before landing with the Knicks. The movie will also include elements of his Christian faith.

The Lin doc is being directed by Evan Jackson Leong, Lin’s friend and a filmmaker in his own right. A former assistant to “Fast and Furious” franchise director Justin Lin (no relation), Leong previously directed a documentary about Christianity in Asia titled "1040" and also has been shooting Lin for years. (A message left at Leong's production company was not returned Wednesday afternoon.) The film will be produced by? 408 Films and?Endgame Entertainment, which previously produced the Oscar favorite "An Education" and the documentary "Every Little Step;" it's currently working on a documentary series about American sports for HBO.

It won’t be the first time Lin will be seen outside the precincts of SportsCenter. Lin is active on YouTube, regularly posting videos to his own account. In addition, a series of "Day in the Life" videos, made with Leong's help when Lin was still a struggling backup with the Golden State Warriors, became a viral sensation after No. 17 hit it big with the Knicks.

Lin proved endlessly fascinating when he came out of nowhere earlier this year, showing unbridled enthusiasm while netting at least 20 points and seven assists in his first five starts. But does that interest live on, and will it be enough to sustain a theatrical or high-profile television documentary? Lin’s basketball future is also cloudy — he’s a free agent after this year — so we’ll see if the movie can, Lin-style, get by on large amounts of grit. Spike Lee, if ever there was a film project calling your name ....

Taiwan police: Woman kills self while on Facebook - The Associated Press

Taiwan police: Woman kills self while on FacebookBy ANNIE HUANG, Associated Press – 1 day ago?

TAIPEI, Taiwan (AP) — A woman in Taiwan killed herself by inhaling poisonous fumes while chatting with friends on Facebook and none of them alerted authorities, police said Tuesday.

Claire Lin killed herself on her 31st birthday, March 18, and family members who reported her suicide were unaware of the Facebook conversations that accompanied it, Taipei police officer Hsieh Ku-ming said.

Lin's last Facebook entries show her chatting with nine friends, alerting them to her gradual asphyxiation. One picture uploaded from her mobile phone depicts a charcoal barbecue burning next to two stuffed animals. Another shows the room filled with fumes.

One friend identified as Chung Hsin, told Lin, "Be calm, open the window, put out the charcoal fire, please, I beg you."

Lin replied: "The fumes are suffocating. They fill my eyes with tears. Don't write me anymore."

A few of the Facebook friends chatting with her tried to stop her and track her down on their own, but none called police. Chung did not respond to attempts to reach him for comment.

Lin's last words, in Chinese, were: "Too late. My room is filled with fumes. I just posted another picture. Even while I'm dying, I still want FB (Facebook). Must be FB poison. Haha."

Lin's Facebook postings indicated she was unhappy because her boyfriend was ignoring her, and had failed to return home to be with her on her birthday. Her boyfriend found her body the next morning and alerted her family, Hsieh said.

Hsieh said he regretted that none of her friends called police to help her during the 67-minute episode, but he added it may have been difficult for them to know her whereabouts because of the nature of social media.

"It could be true that it would be hard to track down a Facebook friend without her address or phone contact," Hsieh said.

Chai Ben-rei, a sociologist at Taiwan's Feng Chia University, said the incident reflected social isolation in the Internet age.

"People may have doubts about what they see on the Internet because of its virtual nature, and fail to take action on it," he said.

In a statement, Facebook said the company is deeply saddened by Lin's death and that the case serves as a "painful reminder of how people can help others who are in distress or need assistance."

Facebook's help page has links to suicide prevention hotlines in about 20 countries, including Taiwan, where the Taiwan Suicide Prevention Center's phone number and website are listed.

In the case of an emergency, however, Facebook urges users to call authorities immediately.

Medistem Appoints Director of Chinese Operations - MarketWatch (press release)

SAN DIEGO, CA, Mar 29, 2012 (MARKETWIRE via COMTEX) -- Medistem Inc. (pinksheets:MEDS) announced today the appointment of Feng Lin, MD, Ph.D as Director of Chinese Operations. Dr. Lin has an extensive background in basic research and therapeutics development, having previously worked at the Hunan Medical University in both preclinical and clinical settings. Dr. Lin will be working out of Medistem's San Diego office.

"Medistem has been collaborating with the Hunan Medical University since 2007, including publishing the first clinical use of the ERC in 2009 (link to publication: http://www.translational-medicine.com/content/pdf/1479-5876-7-15.pdf )," stated Thomas Ichim, CEO of Medistem Inc. "Dr. Lin will coordinate our academic and business collaborations, including existing relationships with the Tongji Hospital of Wuhan, the Second Xiangya Hospital, of the Central South University, in Hunan, and our partnership with the Shanghai Jia Fu Medical Apparatus Inc. It is with great pleasure that we welcome Dr. Lin to the team."

Medistem is currently collaborating with the Shanghai Jia Fu Medical Apparatus Inc, a conglomerate that has commercialized cell therapies in China, for developing its "Universal Donor" stem cell product, the Endometrial Regenerative Cell (ERC), as a treatment for critical limb ischemia. The Shanghai Jia Fu Medical Apparatus company is currently utilizing patient's own bone marrow stem cells in the treatment of critical limb ischemia. The collaboration will assess whether superior results are obtained with the ERC. If results are successful, Medistem anticipates data collection and revenue generation within the next 18 months.

"To my knowledge Medistem is the only company to have taken a product from discovery in 2007 to an FDA cleared clinical trial within the short span of 4 years. It is my honor to work with such an aggressive team at opening up the Chinese Market," said Dr. Feng Lin. "A strong association between smoking and critical limb ischemia exists; at present China has more smokers than the population of the USA. We are excited about the possibility of a universal donor stem cell therapy for treatment of this condition that causes amputation in approximately 30% of patients within a year."

The ERC are a unique population of stem cells that originate from the endometrium and are derived from menstrual blood. One donor can generate 20,000 doses. To date ERCs have demonstrated the ability to produce more growth factors, and ability to generate new blood vessels, as compared to other stem cell types.

About Medistem Inc. Medistem Inc. is a biotechnology company developing technologies related to adult stem cell extraction, manipulation, and use for treating inflammatory and degenerative diseases. The company's lead product, the endometrial regenerative cell (ERC), is a "universal donor" stem cell being developed for critical limb ischemia and heart failure. NY Knicks' Jeremy Lin finds he is marked man around NBA after birth of Linsanity - New York Daily News

MILWAUKEE — Jeremy Lin is a wanted man in the NBA. Opposing point guards and marketing departments all want a piece of the Knicks’ point guard.

The Bucks ran ads in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel and on electronic billboards featuring Lin, who has become an instant cultural icon. That’s good for ticket sales, but not necessarily good for Lin, who has become a marked man.

“I don’t know if it is me or maybe the Knicks,” Lin said on Friday. “Maybe all of us. I don’t know. But teams definitely come after us and play hard against us. We’ve had a little bit of media attention and that may have a little to do with that.”

All that attention, however, has its drawbacks. Opponents take it as a source of pride to outplay Lin, who almost overnight went from anonymity to one of the league’s most popular players. After Lin was manhandled by the Miami Heat two weeks ago, Carmelo Anthony told his teammate that he was now on every team’s “scouting report.”

Lin was roughed up by the Dallas Mavericks on Tuesday — the same team that he had torched for 28 points and 14 assists 10 days earlier. In fact, Jason Kidd floored Lin with a hard foul to the head. Mike D’Antoni argued that a flagrant should have been called and instead the head coach was whistled for a technical.

“Now, I know what to expect,” Lin said. “I haven’t been around very long but I’ve learned that they’re going to come after me and come after us every single night.”

The attention Lin is receiving could potentially create jealousy inside the Knicks’ locker room. Thus far Lin’s teammates don’t seem to have a problem with the second-year player from Harvard stealing the spotlight. Lin’s presence has meant fewer interview obligations for Amar’e Stoudemire and Anthony, who was not available on Friday morning during the media access period.

Lin, though, is savvy enough to understand his place on the team, which is why he routinely praises his coaches and teammates during his interviews.

“I think as a team I wish credit was more distributed evenly according to what we do,” Lin added. “I think a lot of it has unnecessarily fallen on me. This team has done a great job and we stayed together.”

Badminton-Lin bursts into semis, easy for Chong Wei - Reuters

(Adds later results)

* Hidayat drought against Lin goes on

* Third seed Chen Long bows out

By Dave Thompson

BIRMINGHAM, England, March 9 (Reuters) - Lin Dan blasted his way past old rival Taufik Hidayat 21-18 21-8 on Friday to earn a place in the semi-finals of the All England badminton championships.

The Chinese is the world and Olympic champion, titles held by Hidayat at his peak in the mid-2000s, but time has marched on and the Indonesian has not beaten Lin in seven years.

Friday's defeat took their head-to-head record to 10-3 in favour of the Chinese although for a time an upset looked possible with both men going toe to toe in the first game.

Once Lin took the opener he quickly went 9-0 up in the second with a series of powerful cross-court smashes that left his opponent reeling.

Reminded of his long wait for a win against his Chinese rival, Hidayat said: "Yes it was in 2005 when I was 25. Now I am 31, almost 32. It's sport. You have the generations".

Lin's main rival, title holder and world number one Lee Chong Wei of Malaysia, breezed past unseeded Indonesian Dionysius Hayom Rumbaka 21-9 21-11 in 27 minutes.

He now faces experienced South Korean Lee Hyun-il who enjoyed a comfortable 21-15 21-13 triumph over unseeded Malaysian Daren Liew.

Lin's semi-final opponent in his quest for a fifth All England crown is seventh-seeded Japanese Kenichi Tago who upset number three seed Chen Long of China 22-24 21-12 21-14.

In an enthralling women's singles encounter, top seed and world champion Wang Yihan of China survived four match points to edge out battling Tine Baun of Denmark 19-21 25-23 21-9.

"There's always a loser and a winner and I was just trying to show what I was capable of," said Wang. (Editing by Tony Jimenez; Reuters messenger: dave.thompson.reuters.com@reuters.net; Please double click on the newslink for more badminton)

Lin Dan hails defeated Hidayat - AFP

Lin Dan hails defeated HidayatBy Richard Eaton (AFP) – 14 hours ago?

BIRMINGHAM, United Kingdom — Lin Dan reached the semi-finals of the All-England Open for the eighth time in nine years on Friday and paid tribute to his departing opponent, Taufik Hidayat.

The Olympic and World champion from China beat the former Olympic and world champion from Indonesia 21-18, 21-8, and looked more than good enough to become the first player of the open era to win the All-England men's singles five times.

Lin got well on top after a tight first game against a retiring fellow legend who has probably played his last All-England.

"Taufik has given a lot of happiness and we are grateful to him," he said of Hidayat.

"He is one of the greatest and I really admire him, but unfortunately we can't avoid things like retirement," added Lin, who had been thinking of stopping himself at the London Olympics but now says he may go on.

The most impressive things on Friday were Lin's superbly balanced movement, even under the greatest pressure, his ability to put the shuttle in the four corners, and the speed with which he struck when he saw an opening.

He was later joined in the semi-finals by a fellow left-hander Lee Hyun-Il, who overcame a surprise survivor, the Malaysian qualifier Daren Liew, 21-15, 21-13.

The Korean was expecting a semi-final against another Malaysian, Lee Chong Wei, the defending champion.

Earlier there was an unexpected Chinese player into the semi-finals of the women's singles, an event already dominated by the sport's most powerful nation.

That was Li Xuerui, a 21-year-old from Chongqing, who caused a minor upset to the seedings by ending the hopes of Saina Nehwal, the Commonwealth Games champion from India.

The seventh-seeded player beat the fourth seeded by 21-13, 23-21 which means that Nehwal has yet to reach the final of the traditional event which has plenty of cache in India.

Li was extremely skilful and inventive, and difficult to contain when she was attacking. Nehwal did that better in the second game by taking the initiative more herself, reaching game point at 21-20.

But Li saved that with a perfect tumbling net shot after Nehwal had pushed the shuttle three times in a row to that area, perhaps enabling the Chinese player to take the shuttle high and early for the winning shot.

"It was very hard and I was pleased with my performance," said Li, who won the German Open last week and now has a great chance of reaching the biggest final of her career so far.

She next plays Tai Tzu Ying, the world number 16 from Taiwan, who outlasted the Korean giant-killer Sung Ji-Hyun.

Sung scored a first round win over Wang Xin, the second-seeded Asian Games winner from China, and looked capable of going further still when she recovered spectacularly from 16-20 down in the first game against Tai.

She took six points in a row to snatch the game and leave Tai looking frustrated.

But the Taiwanese player's movement and consistency imposed themselves increasingly from 11-11 onwards in the second game and she eventually won with something to spare.

NBA Power Rankings: Linsanity takes tumble - New York Daily News

It was nice while it lasted, but the Knicks’ meteoric rise in our weely NBA power rankings is over.

Their current free-fall - from a season-high No. 7 ranking, all the way down to No. 16 - hasn’t been totally unexpected. It’s been a combination of Carmelo Anthony’s return to the lineup, Jeremy Lin’s return to Earth and playing against better competition. Add it all up and the Knicks have lost six of their last nine games going into Friday's contest against the Bucks in Milwaukee.

Linsanity, it was nice knowing ya.
How we see the NBA, from top to bottom:

1. Miami (Last Week: 1)

Big stretch for LeBron James and Co. to get a grip on the top spot in the East. Starting Saturday, the Heat’s next five games over six days: Home for Indiana, at Orlando, at Chicago, at Philadelphia and home for Orlando.
2. Chicago (LW: 2)

Bulls didn’t get six-game homestand off to a good start, losing to Orlando. Knicks and Heat visit United Center next week.

3. Oklahoma City (LW: 3)

Thunder gets its one and only look of the season at Cleveland’s Kyrie Irving on Friday night in OKC.

4. San Antonio (LW: 4)

When the Spurs get to play a crippled team like the Knicks - without Tyson Chandler and Jared Jeffries - they look like they can take anyone.

5.? Orlando (LW: 8)

After posting a critical win in Chicago, Magic get to tackle the Pacers, Heat, Spurs (on the road), Heat (in Miami) and Chicago over next 10 days.

6.? Memphis (LW: 11)

What are they doing this high? Their five-game winning streak has vaulted the Grizzlies into third place in the West.

7.? L.A. Clippers (LW: 5)

Chris Paul had it right after more defensive lapses killed his team in an embarrassing loss to the Nets in Newark: “There’s no reason for us to get down to this team by 18.’’

8. Indiana (LW: 6)

George Hill has never looked better for the Pacers than since returning from an ankle injury.

9. Philadelphia (LW: 14)

The Sixers have to take care of Utah at home before they can solidify their hold on the Atlantic Division with a win over the Knicks on Sunday in the Garden.

10.? Dallas (LW: 12)

The struggling Lamar Odom is not getting along with the most important person on the Mavs: owner Mark Cuban. That’s not good for Mr. Kardashian.

11. Atlanta (LW: 13)

Sure the Celtics want Josh Smith. Why wouldn’t they? But the Hawks are not making major changes until the off-season.

12.? Lakers (LW: 9)

Getting ready for their showdown Sunday vs. the Celtics, it’s all about how Kobe Bryant and Co. can’t score. The Lakers averaged 101.5 points last season under Phil Jackson, ninth in the NBA. They’re at 93.9 ppg under Mike Brown, 21st in the NBA.

13. Minnesota (LW: 17)

With Kevin Love playing like an MVP candidate, the T-wolves are two games over .500 for the first time this late in the season since 2004-05.

14. Boston (LW: 18)

Check out Sunday’s game in L.A. because it will be the Big Three’s last one against the Lakers.

15. Houston (LW: 10)

Rockets are 0-for-March entering Saturday’s game in Newark. They’ve lost five straight, with their last victory Feb. 28 vs. Toronto.

16. Knicks (LW: 7)

Nothing lasts forever, or even two months: Lin has gone from the cover of Sports Illustrated two weeks in a row to a potential entry in Faces in the Crowd.

17.? Denver (LW: 15)

When they lost to the Cavs, allowing Kyrie Irving’s fullcourt dash and layup in the last seconds, the Nuggets saw the end of their perfect record vs. Eastern Conference teams. They’re now 9-1.

18. Portland (LW: 16)

Blazers have lost eight of 12 and are on the road for six more games. You bet the ship is sinking.

19. Utah (LW: 20)

The party is over for the Jazz on their Eastern Conference swing. After wins in Cleveland and Charlotte, the competition gets tougher with a back-to-back in Philly Friday and Chicago on Saturday.

20. Phoenix (LW: 21)

To get the final playoff spot in the West, the Suns are going to have to make a major trade before next week’s deadline and that’s not happening

21. Cleveland (LW: 23)

If the Cavs didn’t have to play teams in the East, they’d be OK. They’re 6-6 vs. the West, only 8-17 in their own conference.

22. Golden State (LW: 19)

After seeing his team mail in their game against Memphis, Mark Jackson went on the attack, saying about his team’s woeful effort: “You don’t want to have to coach energy, effort and passion.’’ Perfectly said.

23. Milwaukee (LW: 22)

The Bucks lost the season series to the Bulls, 4-0, when they had no one to stop Derrick Rose at the buzzer.

24. Nets (LW: 24)

I’ll be stunned - and so will everyone else, starting with Avery Johnson - if Dwight Howard is in a Net uniform the day after the trading deadline, playing his old Magic team down in Orlando.

25.? Detroit (LW: 26)

Lawrence Frank getting high marks from his boss, Joe Dumars, on changing the culture in Piston-land. That’s yet to be reflected in the record, of course.

26.? Sacramento (LW: 25)

They’re getting a new arena in Sacramento, at least that’s the plan. Now they just need a new team to sell the place out.

27. Toronto (LW: 27)

They’re the best team in Canada, if that’s any consolation.

28. Washington (LW: 29)

They used a bunch of backups to snap their nine-game losing streak to the Lakers.

29. New Orleans (LW: 28)

Since returning from the All-Star break, the Hornets have lost five of six.

30. Charlotte (LW: 30)

When Charles Barkley starts criticizing his best buddy, Michael Jordan, then you know Jordan has done a rotten job with his Bobcats.

Overshadowed by Lin mayhem, Knicks' Steve Novak quietly proving he deserves a ... - Minneapolis Star Tribune

MILWAUKEE - Milwaukee is just about the only place New York Knicks forward Steve Novak would draw more TV cameras than far more famous teammate Jeremy Lin.

Novak may have been buried in the avalanche of Lin hype, but the former Marquette star quietly is proving he deserves a place in the NBA. After bouncing around among four teams in his first five seasons, Novak finally has found a productive home in Mike D'Antoni's high-octane offense.

Going into Friday night's game against the Milwaukee Bucks, Novak was No. 2 in the NBA in 3-point percentage, shooting 47.7 percent. Coming off the bench, he has scored in double figures in 10 of his last 15 games.

He credits his success to the Knicks' aggressive offense and the play of his teammates — especially Lin.

"The way he finds guys in the right spots, gets them the ball, is incredible," Novak said before Friday morning's shootaround. "He's easy to play with. He puts so much pressure on the defenses. As a shooter, it's kind of a dream come true."

New York came to Milwaukee having lost three straight and six of nine. But when the Knicks are at their best, they can score inside or from the perimeter — and Novak has cashed in when his better-known teammates draw the attention of defenders.

"Defenses do have to decide who they're going to guard that night a lot of times," Novak said. "I think because we do have the inside presence, we do have the perimeter presence, and Jeremy and Baron (Davis) really operating it, it makes it tough."

While Lin usually has the spotlight, he believes teammates such as Novak should get more credit.

"Yeah, definitely," Lin said. "As a team, I wish credit was more distributed evenly according to what we do. I think a lot of it has unnecessarily fallen on me, but this team has done a great job, we've stayed together and we're just continuing to build."

Novak doesn't mind. He appreciates Lin's unlikely journey from Harvard to the NBA Development League to Madison Square Garden.

"He's an unbelievable story," Novak said. "I think because of the kid that he is, he's really fun to watch. He's a guy who just works his butt off, and has been told, `You can't do this, you can't do that' his whole life. And look at him go."

Even if that attention does make it harder for the Knicks to go out in public. Novak says they sometimes make Lin wear a hooded sweat shirt with his hat pulled low.

"He's definitely a rock star, yeah," Novak said. "Everybody knows him. We have to put disguises on him when we go out to the movies and stuff. So he's pretty big-time."

Milwaukee, however, is Novak's turf. He grew up in the area and played at Marquette, making the Final Four in 2003 with Dwyane Wade.

Given the demands of friends and family, Novak was leaning on teammates for tickets to Friday night's game. His family will be there — once his sister's high school game is over, of course.

"We're going to try to sneak in as soon as we can," said Novak's father, Mike, who coached him in high school and now is the athletic director at nearby Brown Deer High School.

Steve has been in the NBA since 2006, but Mike Novak is now getting to watch his son play in a meaningful role.

"This is Steve's sixth year," Mike Novak said. "He's worked really hard. He's always been the shooter that you see out there now. He just needed the time and the opportunity, and given that situation and scenario he's got right now is fantastically wonderful for him. He's taking advantage of it. ... He's a good kid, and he deserves it."

And Novak has brought a little bit of Wisconsin with him to New York: the "title belt" celebration gesture made popular by Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

On the urging of one of the team's security guards, Novak borrowed Rodgers' trademark gesture after hitting a big shot in the Knicks' Feb. 19 victory over the Dallas Mavericks.

"It is my Wisconsin association, and I'm such a big Packer fan, I thought it was cool," Novak said. "Then it just kind of took off on its own."

And while Milwaukee always will be home for Novak, he appreciates life in New York.

"It's sure different than good ol' Milwaukee," Novak said. "We live on like the 33rd floor of a building, which is so different. Usually when you have a dog, you go let it out right in front of the building. Now there's, like, no grass — anywhere. There's those little things like that. But it's a cool experience to be in such a different place from where I grew up."

Lin still has NBA's attention - New York Daily News

MILWAUKEE — Jeremy Lin is a wanted man in the NBA.

Opposing point guards and marketing departments all want a piece of the Knicks point guard.

The Bucks ran ads in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel and on electronic billboards featuring Lin, who has become an instant cultural icon. That's good for ticket sales, but not necessarily good for Lin, who has become a marked man.

"I don't know if it is me or maybe the Knicks," Lin said on Friday. "Maybe all of us. I don't know. But teams definitely come after us and play hard against us. We've had a little bit of media attention and that may have a little to do with that."

All that attention, however, has its drawbacks. Opponents take it as a source of pride to outplay Lin, who almost overnight went from anonymous to being one of the league's most popular players. After Lin was manhandled by the Miami Heat two weeks ago, Carmelo Anthony told his teammate that he was now on every team's "scouting report."

Lin was roughed up by the Dallas Mavericks on Tuesday — the same team that he torched for 28 points and 14 assists 10 days earlier. In fact, Jason Kidd floored Lin with a hard foul to the head. Mike D'Antoni argued that a flagrant should have been called and instead the head coach was whistled for a technical foul.

"Now, I know what to expect," he said. "I haven't been around very long but I've learned that they're going to come after me and come after us every single night."

The attention Lin is receiving could potentially create jealousy inside the Knicks locker room. Thus far Lin's teammates don't seem to have a problem with the second-year player from Harvard stealing the spotlight.

Lin's presence has meant fewer interview obligations for Amar'e Stoudemire and Anthony, who was not available on Friday morning during the media access period.

The team's two highest-paid and most accomplished players are fine with the media surrounding Lin's locker. Lin, though, is savvy enough to understand his place on the team which is why he routinely praises his coaches and teammates during his interviews.

"I think as a team I wish credit was more distributed evenly according to what we do," Lin added. "I think a lot of it has unnecessarily fallen on me. This team has done a great job and we stayed together."

Anthony's return to Knicks has hurt team, Lin - New York Post

MILWAUKEE — Carmelo Anthony has a long way to go before ever receiving the compliment Mike D’Antoni bestowed recently on Tyson Chandler as the Knicks' “most irreplaceable player.’’

On the flip side, Anthony has looked more like their most replaceable player.

It showed in San Antonio on Wednesday when the Knicks looked like all the other defense-poor teams of years past without Chandler.

In games Anthony has played this season, discounting the first five minutes of the Utah win, the Knicks are 11-17. When Anthony has been out, the Knicks are 7-4.

BLAME GAME: The Knicks have gone 7-4 when Carmelo Anthony isn’t in the lineup, but just 11-17 when he plays. BLAME GAME: The Knicks have gone 7-4 when Carmelo Anthony isn’t in the lineup, but just 11-17 when he plays.

The Knicks limp into Milwaukee tonight on a three-game losing streak, clinging to the eighth seed in the Eastern Conference at 18-21. Once the NBA’s Linderella story, Anthony’s Knicks have sunk back to mediocrity and likely face an 0-4 road trip if Chandler (hamstring, wrist) is out again tonight. The center is listed as questionable.

As feared, The Melo Effect has spoiled Linsanity.

D’Antoni has allowed the offense to revert to Anthony’s liking, where he controlled the flow in San Antonio with 24 shot attempts. Point guard Jeremy Lin did not make an impact as Anthony became chief decision-maker. Anthony’s lack of defensive instincts is also contributing to the losing as the club plays with less spirit on that end.

With the NBA trade deadline Thursday, the Knicks don’t need to add another player to their overcrowded rotation, but they could use a chemistry kit for D’Antoni.

If the Anthony/Lin combo doesn’t click into victories, owner James Dolan will have to sort out the Lin-Anthony-D’Antoni triangle this summer. Dolan will have to decide whether to seek trade offers for Anthony or just get rid of D’Antoni while figuring out if Lin, a free agent, is the starting point guard of the future or a product of D’Antoni’s speedball offense. It has become clear Anthony doesn’t agree with D’Antoni’s system and it’s become clearer D’Antoni is afraid of criticizing Anthony.

Dolan is not on the road trip, but Hank Ratner, the Garden’s CEO, and arena president Scott O’Neill were there when Anthony pouted after his six-point dud in Dallas. Ratner has more influence on Dolan than anyone in the organization.

Since Anthony’s return from a groin injury, the Knicks are 2-5. That came on the heels of the Knicks’ 8-1 surge that sent Lin onto the cover of Sports Illustrated two straight weeks.

D’Antoni talked out of both sides of his mouth Wednesday. One moment he preached a balanced attack with Lin making the decisions. The next moment, he suggested the Knicks need to find a way to get Anthony the most shots and points.

After the San Antonio loss, Amar’e Stoudemire sounded as if he was transported back to the losing ways of January when he spoke about spacing and ball movement.

“You watch San Antonio,” Stoudemire said. “They don’t have nearly enough talent to compete with us. Our talent level, personnel, is off the charts. But what they do well is they keep the floor spaced and make sure those guys execute the plays. That’s something we’ve got to do, keep the floor spaced and keep the ball moving and get everyone involved.’’

The biggest problem with Anthony is his belief the Knicks can’t win unless the ball is going through him. He complained about the adjustment of “waiting for the ball’’ in the Lin-directed offense. His increased lecturing of Lin on the court appears counter-productive. It has made Lin tentative and deferential.

After the San Antonio loss, Anthony was asked about his oncourt conversations with Lin and said he was just trying to “keep his confidence at a high level.’’

“My message to him is don’t try to put it all on your shoulders,’’ Anthony said. “It’s a learning process. It’s new for him. It’s new for us having him out there, too. We’re in this together.”

D’Antoni seems powerless in trying to get the best out of Lin while keeping Anthony happy.

“The team’s complexion did change in his absence,” D’Antoni said. “And you have to work through that. But there’s no reason why it can’t coexist. We just got to find that right balance of everybody getting into their spots. Just everybody’s got to be a little patient.’’

Anthony said D’Antoni will figure out how to blend his talents with Lin’s.

“It’s going to happen,’’ he said. “I’m not concerned about that. I believe in Coach and how smart he is as coach.’’

San Antonio hands Lin, Knicks another loss - New York Post

SAN ANTONIO — Tony Parker scored 32 points and the San Antonio Spurs dealt the sliding New York Knicks a third consecutive loss, 118-105 on Wednesday night, which doesn't figure to ease the mounting frustrations of Carmelo Anthony and teammates.

Tim Duncan and Manu Ginobili added 17 points apiece in Ginobili's second game back after missing two weeks with a strained stomach muscle. Like the Knicks, the Spurs are finally at full strength again, but are doing a far better job of blending rotations and fitting all their pieces together.

Anthony led New York with 27 points.

The Knicks have lost six of nine. They bear little resemblance to their Jeremy Lin-inspired resurgence before the All-Star break, and booting Landry Fields from the starting lineup before the game didn't help much.

Knicks coach Mike D'Antoni said relegating Fields to the bench wasn't a demotion but simply a stab at trying to find combinations that work. The change came a night after the Knicks trailed by as many as 19 at Dallas, where Anthony afterward admitted having trouble finding his new role in the offense.

Lin came out of nowhere last month and delivered the Knicks the playmaking point guard they craved. But New York's transition has been anything but seamless since Anthony returned Feb. 20 after missing seven games, mostly because of a groin injury.

The Knicks are 2-5 with Anthony back in the lineup. D'Antoni said before the game that Anthony needs to be New York's leading scorer and said he understood the frustration of his star.

"You have to work through. But there's no reason why it can't co-exist," D'Antoni said. "There's no reason why everybody shouldn't do well. We just got to find the right balance of everybody getting into their spots."

Anthony had as many field goals in the first 6 minutes Wednesday night — two 3-pointers — than he did in a lethargic, unfocused performance the night before in Dallas. He was 12 of 24 from the floor and finished with four times as many points as he did against the Mavericks.

Lin shot 7 of 15 and had four assists. Amare Stoudemire had 18 points and 11 rebounds.

Gary Neal scored 12 points and found his way back into the starting lineup as the Spurs ease Ginobili back into playing shape. Ginobil played 25 minutes, shooting 7 of 10 from the floor and adding six assists.

DeJuan Blair, Kawhi Leonard and Tiago Splitter added 10 points apiece for the Spurs. It was a convincing win for San Antonio, which had lost two of its last three at home after returning from the winningest nine-game road trip in NBA history, when the Spurs went 8-1 and quietly climbed to second in the West.

Spurs coach Gregg Popovich didn't stick around to see the end, getting ejected at the end of the third quarter following a heated exchange with officials over foul calls.

A scary moment came in the second quarter when Spurs point guard T.J. Ford lay on the floor for more than three minutes. The Spurs said the veteran received a stinger after getting elbowed in his back, and Ford appeared wobbly while being helped off the court and back into the tunnel. He didn't return to the game.

Ford missed the entire 2004-05 season because of a spinal cord injury, and the Spurs took the unusual step of noting that Ford was "neurologically intact" on a midgame injury report. It was not immediately clear how much time the Spurs might be without their backup point guard, who has played in just 14 games all season because of other injuries.

Notes: Knicks F Jared Jefferies (sore foot) didn't play and is also expected to miss Friday's game against Milwaukee...Don't expect the Spurs to make any surprise trades before the March 15 deadline. Popovich joked before Wednesday's game that he'll just let the phone ring his office on the eve of the deadline. "We're not doing anything anyway," Popovich imagined telling his staff. "Don't answer it."

Lin Dan plans to keep playing after Olympics - Gulf Times

AFP/London
Olympic and world champion Lin Dan reached the quarter-finals of the All-England Open on Thursday and revealed that he may not retire after the London Olympics.
Lin’s 21-13, 21-16 win over fellow left-hander Chong Wei Feng keeps alive a chance of becoming the first men’s singles player of the open era to win five All-England titles.?
“I will probably relax for a period of time and then continue,” said the 28-year-old from Fujian.
Lin next plays Taufik Hidayat, the unseeded former Olympic and world champion from Indonesia, who survived a late fightback from Chen Jin, the 2010 world champion from China, who saved two match points but could not quite save a third in a 21-19, 21-19 defeat
Lin expressed support for Peter Gade, the 35-year-old former world number one from Denmark, whose last All-England came to a controversial end with a first round defeat in a match which started five hours late and ended in the early hours of Thursday morning. “He has my sympathy—he was unlucky,” said Lin, who is said to be considering a trip to Copenhagen to play an exhibition with Gade.
Lin is seeded for a repeat encounter in the final with Lee Chong Wei, the defending champion from Malaysia, to whom the Chinese player lost in last year’s final but overcame in an exceptional world final at Wembley in August.
Lee also won, and similarly indicated that his predicted retirement at the London Olympics will not happen.??
Instead he will make one last attempt to win the world title next year before considering a career in coaching.
Lee’s 23-21, 21-18 win over Hans-Christian Vittinghus, the unseeded but improving Dane, required him to save game points at 19-20 and 20-21, and to continue to work hard through the rest of the match.
“But that was what I needed,” said Lee, who now has a quarter-final with an unseeded survivor, Dionysius Rumbaka.
The former top 20 player from Indonesia suggested he is again playing to that standard with a well-taken 21-17, 21-17 win over Sho Sasaki, the sixth seeded Japanese player.?
The top seed in the women’s singles, Wang Yihan, reached the quarter-finals even more comfortably and earned a repeat of the All-England finals of 2009 and 2010. The Chinese player was a 21-13, 21-12 winner against her compatriot Liu Xin, which means she now plays Denmark’s Tine Baun, to whom she lost the year before last but beat three years ago.?
“Tomorrow is very important,” Wang said. Baun showed no signs of her hip problem and was forceful and dominating in a 21-9, 21-17 win over Ai Goto, the world number 22 from Japan.
Earlier another Wang also become involved in a repeat of an All-England final.?
This saw the titleholder from China, Wang Shixian, repeat last year’s win over Eriko Hirose, the determined, athletic Japanese player, by 21-10, 21-19.?
Another front runner, Saina Nehwal, the fourth-seeded Commonwealth champion from India, had a comparably good win, a 21-10, 21-17 success against Pi Hongyan, the former world number two from France.
“I’m very happy to play such a good match,” said Nehwal who had lost five of her six previous matches against the former Chinese squad player.?
“I had been fearing this match.”?
She next plays Li Xuerui, the seventh-seeded Chinese player.
Koo Kien Keat and Tan Boon Heong, the former world number one men’s doubles pair from Malaysia, suffered a fractious end to their bid to reach the All-England final a second successive year.

Knicks face huge challenge on offense - SI.com

Jeremy Lin and Carmelo Anthony have yet to click, but it's still early in the Knicks' development. (Matthew Emmons/US Presswire)

You could see the story playing out in advance before Knicks coach Mike D’Antoni re-inserted Carmelo Anthony and Jeremy Lin for Josh Harrellson and Baron Davis with 3:57 left Tuesday in Dallas after a motley mix of bench players and one starter (Amar’e Stoudemire) had cut the Mavericks’ 14-point fourth-quarter lead to two. You knew that when Dallas made its run, almost mathematically inevitable, a pseudo-controversy would spring up over whether D’Antoni should have left “the bench” in, and whether the Anthony/Lin pairing is doomed.

You knew this would be so even though the hero of the bench, Steve Novak, remained on the court for another 90 seconds as the Mavs scored eight straight points to basically clinch the game. You knew the ensuing controversy, fueled by Anthony’s postgame comments about his changing role, would (in some corners) be devoid of the complicated context within which it actually exists.

Some of that context:

? The Knicks’ blissful Linsanity stretch — eight games in which Anthony essentially didn’t play because of injury — featured a schedule filled with lottery teams and home games. The schedule has gotten slightly more challenging and road-heavy since then, and New York has predictably struggled.

? During the non-Anthony portion of Linsanity, the Knicks scored 100.85 points per 100 possessions, according to Hoopdata. That would rank about 14th in the NBA. The Knicks, in other words, played average offense against a weak schedule with Lin as the offensive centerpiece.

During those same eight games, against that same weak schedule and with the same depleted roster, New York allowed 93.7 points per 100 possessions. That would be the stingiest mark in the league over the full season.

In simple terms: The Knicks’ defense was the driving force of their success during Lin’s emergence. This is not ground-breaking. I’ve written it more than once, as have other NBA analysts. If you think New York played 2006-07 Suns-level offense while Anthony and Stoudemire sat and Lin became a star, you are ignoring reality.

? Since Anthony’s return on Feb. 20, the Knicks have averaged 99.2 points per 100 possessions in six games, a tiny sample size, per Hoopdata. That is below the league’s average, about 1.5 points per 100 possessions worse than what New York did with Lin/without Anthony. The offense has indeed regressed, but that gap is the equivalent of dropping about four or five spots in the points-per-possession rankings. It’s meaningful, but not huge, and it’s not unexpected given the more difficult recent schedule and — this is important — how crummy New York’s offense was before Lin’s breakout.

The Knicks ranked about 25th in points per possession before forces aligned to unleash Lin. They were average with Lin against a poor schedule. It should not be surprising that they are struggling now to instantly integrate all the disparate and new pieces and produce a decent offense.

? The defense has allowed 99.6 points per 100 possessions since Carmelo’s return, a better-than-average mark that nonetheless constitutes a major drop-off from the stingy number (93.7) that they allowed with Lin/without Anthony. In the long run, it’s probably a good sign, or at least not a bad one, that New York has been slightly better than average on defense in a relatively tough six-game stretch while re-integrating two subpar defenders in Anthony and Stoudemire.

There is no question that the Knicks are flailing a bit in trying to fit a high-usage point guard with two of the highest-usage scorers in recent league history. They’ve had only six games to work at it so far! But the lineup numbers via an NBA.com stats database that the league has allowed a few writers to access show that the issues run much deeper than one player (Anthony) or one player pair (Anthony/Lin). What also becomes clear is the degree to which Lin has relied on Novak to succeed in running an above-average offense.

The Knicks are indeed pretty bad with the Lin/Anthony pairing on the floor, according to NBA.com. New York has averaged 97.9 points per 100 possessions with Lin and Anthony together and allowed 102.4, both worse than its season averages. (Note: NBA.com uses a slightly different formula than Hoopdata to calculate the number of possessions in game, leading to lower points-per-possessions numbers. New York’s season average is 98.3 by this scale, so the Anthony/Lin mark of 97.9 is fairly close to that average.)

With Lin and without Anthony, New York’s scoring jumps way up to 105 points per 100 possessions. That’s a bad sign.

But the Knicks have scored at an even worse rate (97.2 points per 100 possessions) with the Lin/Stoudemire pairing, per NBA.com. Before you begin shouting about how Lin plays heavy minutes together with both players, take a look at New York’s full five-man lineup data. You’ll notice the lineups featuring Lin and Stoudemire, but not Anthony, that have played a decent number of minutes have all struggled offensively.

Even the Lin/Tyson Chandler pairing comes out with scoring numbers (98.4 points per 100 possessions) right around New York’s average, something that might surprise you, given the obvious success of the pick-and-roll between those two players.

The Lin/Anthony/Stoudemire trio has indeed been a disaster in 154 minutes. The Knicks have been outscored by nearly nine points per 100 possessions with those three on the floor, the worst scoring margin of any of the team’s 30 trios that have logged at least 130 minutes together, per NBA.com. The offense with these three has scored at a slightly worse rate than when Lin is on the floor with Anthony or Stoudemire but not the other. That is another bad sign.

A revealing little nugget that speaks to this trio’s issues: The Knicks have taken three-pointers on only 12 percent of their shot attempts with Lin, Anthony and Stoudemire on the floor. Only three trios among the hundreds that New York has played this season have relied less on three-pointers, and two of those trios have logged only 33 minutes combined. This speaks to a floor-spacing issue, which brings us to Novak.

The Knicks are scoring an off-the-charts 116.9 points per 100 possessions with Lin and Novak on the floor together, and the only Lin lineups that have logged a decent chunk of minutes together and scored at an above-average rate all include Novak. Having an elite long-range shooter at power forward (or small forward, when two big men are in the game) obviously opens up the middle of floor more when New York runs the pick-and-roll. Anthony is a below-average three-point shooter for his career, and Stoudemire’s mid-range game has suffered this season. Both prefer receiving the ball near the elbows or on the wings, places from which it is easier for their defenders to sag down and clog the lane. This is why you often see one of them stationed in one of the corners on Lin/Chandler pick-and-roll plays.

Having a scorer such as Stoudemire or Anthony standing in a corner is obviously not ideal. Everyone paying any attention at all knew it would take time for the Lin Knicks to jell once they reached full strength. Lin’s emergence as a heavy-minutes starter who dominated the ball amounted to a total remake of the team in the middle of a compressed schedule. Anthony and Stoudemire would have to find ways to work actively on the weak side — screening for each other or cutting backdoor along the baseline — as Lin and Chandler ran pick-and-rolls. New York would have to pick spots for Anthony to isolate in the post, and Lin and Stoudemire would have to discover at least a little pick-and-roll chemistry of their own. The Knicks would have to figure out how to keep the ball moving and the floor spaced.

All of this is happening already, but the commitment, repetition and results have been inconsistent. The stars are feeling their way.

Sometimes you have to point out the obvious: This is an enormous challenge. When the three-pointers are falling, it’s going to look so easy, as if the Knicks could thrive playing Novak 40 minutes per night and never using Anthony and Stoudemire together with Lin again. It would be a fascinating basketball experiment to see them try that, by the way. But in a conference topped by two superpowers, the Knicks must try to make the Lin/Chandler/Stoudemire/Anthony quartet work.

That will take time, and it’s possible New York just won’t have enough of it this season because of the lack of practice. If you expected instant elite offense, you missed how the Knicks were winning during the height of Linsanity, and you underestimated the challenges that players and coaches face going forward.

Lin's got game -- and room to improve - ESPN

There's an Eastern Conference scout who, like the rest of the sports world, has been "completely caught up" in the Jeremy Lin story over the past four weeks.

"It's the perfect storm. It's the perfect system for him and he's the perfect person for it," the scout said.

Of course, it's not all perfect for Lin, despite the New York Knicks' 9-5 record in games Lin has started.

According to the scout, weaknesses have emerged in Lin's game over the past month -- weaknesses that opponents will key on until he forces them to do differently. His ability to correct those flaws is key for a Knicks team hoping to make a deep postseason run.

[+] EnlargeJeremy Lin Brian Babineau/NBAE/Getty ImagesJeremy Lin is on the scouting report now, so teams know to force him to his left.

GO LEFT, YOUNG MAN

One of Lin's deficiencies, scouts say, is his inability to go left with any consistency. This is nothing new. The same scout enamored with Lin says his tendency to go right was noted in early scouting reports.

According to ESPN Stats & Information, Lin drives right in 70 percent of his isolation plays. Boston and Miami both had success against Lin by trying to force him left. Lin shot a combined 7-for-37 against the Heat and Celtics; the Knicks lost both games.

"Once you go through the league it becomes a bigger disadvantage," another scout said of Lin's proclivity to go right.

So how do you fix it?

Scouts say the repetition of offseason drills (both strength and ballhandling) should help fix the problem. One person familiar with Lin's game believes he has to strengthen his right leg to become more comfortable pushing off to his left.

But there's little the Knicks' staff can do to correct it right now, given the lack of practice time in the shortened season.

"You can always tweak things -- switch the angle of his screens, bring him to the other side of the floor, change where he starts a play. But I don't think you'll see a dramatic improvement in his ballhandling the rest of the way," one scout said.

TOO MANY TURNOVERS

Sixteen percent of Lin's possessions end in turnovers -- the fourth highest turnover percentage among point guards playing at least 20 minutes per game.

Most of Lin's turnovers are a result of his aggressive style of play, scouts say.

"I love his aggressiveness and it has worked in a lot of cases, so you don't necessarily want to settle him down," one scout said. "You want to see him make better decisions, but that's difficult to do."

Essentially, scouts say, it comes back to practice time and experience -- things that will be in short supply the rest of the season. The Knicks have 28 games in the final 50 days of the season. Most days in between games will be used as recovery days. The team won't have much opportunity to scrimmage.

That means Lin will have to work out his issues during the games.

"It's decision-making -- if you have a lane, go ahead and take it. But he's forced it sometimes," one scout said. "And in [Mike] D'Antoni's system, he's encouraged that 'If you think you have an advantage, go ahead and take it.' It's not a big 'structure' system."

BEWARE THE TRAP

To try to limit Lin's pick-and-roll opportunities, many teams have sent two defenders at him as a perimeter trap. Scouts have seen Lin handle this scheme with mixed results.

At his best, Lin will lure both defenders and exploit the subsequent weakness created in the defense. Or he'll lure the bigger defender and use his speed as an advantage; this is what Lin did so well against Dallas the first time, when he had 28 points and 14 assists.

But he struggled against the trap versus Miami and, to a lesser degree, Boston. He had a combined 14 turnovers in the two games.

"That's something he's going to have to get better at, because he's going to see it more and more," one scout said.

To make teams pay, one talent evaluator suggests sending a shooter to set the screen for Lin. Then the shooter slips the screen, giving himself an open look.

Lin can also engage both defenders. "If you can string it out and have two people play you, you're definitely creating an advantage," the scout said.

PROGNOSIS: POSITIVE

Even while dissecting the deficiencies in his game, scouts made it clear that they believe Lin can and will improve in all areas.

"I think he's talented enough to work on it and really get better," one evaluator said. "He's a student of the game."

Lin recognizes that he has plenty to learn. After all, he has just 14 NBA starts to his name.

"I'm learning a lot and absorbing information right now," he said. "Obviously it doesn't feel good at all and [I] have some long nights after some bad games. But that's part of the growth process."

Dallas Mavericks guard Jason Kidd, No. 2, seems to grab a handful of hair trying to defend New York Knicks guard Jeremy Lin in Dallas' win Tuesday.

In the third quarter, with the Mavericks leading 62-47, Lin rose for a layup and was clobbered on the head from behind by Kidd's forearm. Reviewing the slow-motion replay, Kidd also seems to have gotten a handful of hair on the back of Lin's head.

Kidd was called for a foul. But Knicks coach Mike D'Antoni wanted a flagrant and got a technical for complaining. including saying the referees should at least have reviewed the play.

Lin picked apart the Mavs in the Knicks' 104-97 home victory Feb. 19 with 28 points, 14 assists, five steals and four rebounds. Tuesday, he had 14 points, seven assists, three rebounds and two steals.

There does not appear to be bad blood between the Kidd and Lin, both from the Bay Area. Lin even grew up a Kidd fan.

After the Knicks' victory three weeks ago, Kidd had words of encouragement for Lin after the game and said he saw a bit of Phoenix Suns point guard Steve Nash in Lin. "He just plays the game the right way, and as a point guard, that's what you love to see," Kidd said then.

?The NBA on Wednesday did fine Kidd $25,000 for "public criticism of officiating" after Dallas' 95-91 loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder on Monday. Kidd said, "We don't get the benefit of the whistle. I don't think we're looked upon as defending champions. That's a whole 'nother story."

Also guarded: After a spectacular start to his rookie season, Minnesota Timberwolves' Ricky Rubio has slowed. David Kahn, the team's president of basketball operations, has complained to the NBA about the excessive physical play against the 6-4, 180-pound point guard.

Rubio, averaging 10.6 points and 8.3 assists entering Wednesday, had not had a double-double since getting his 11th on Feb. 4.

When teams question how games are officiated, they usually contact the league via the team's inquiry website and give them the plays they are referencing. Rarely are videos sent to the NBA's offices anymore.

Someone from the basketball or referee operations staff will respond to Kahn.

"They're putting bigger guys on him. They're beating the hell out of him right now," Timberwolves coach Rick Adelman told the Minneapolis Star-Tribune. Other teams have "figured out you have to be physical with him. And he's kind of learning on the fly."
